When I was growing up, I thought that chronic illness meant physical symptoms...a loss of movement or ability. It was unforunate, but rare.
No one talked about the emotional impact. Chronic pain and invisible illnesses often bring a all-encompassing sense of grief for the life we used to have and the future that we had envisioned.
A loss of ability, independence, energy, relationships, career aspirations, or personal goals can leave one feeling emotionally overwhelmed. Acknowledging this grief is key to learning to live with chronic illness.
When we show ourselves compassion, seek support, and move towards acceptance, it becomes possible to build resilience and meaning despite the emotional and physical pain.
Be gentle to yourselves :)
